Our Mission
The Mississippi Children’s Museum provides a unique and exciting
educational experience that ignites and inspires a thirst for
discovery, knowledge and learning in all children.
Our Vision
By 2009, we will establish a fully funded children’s museum
that is accessible to all, recognized for educational excellence and
developed through statewide community collaboration.
The purpose of the Mississippi Children’s Museum is to serve the unique
needs of the children, schools and families of our state. The project
is becoming a reality thanks to the shared beliefs that Mississippi
should have a museum that celebrates our rich history and tradition,
providing exhibits and programs that are fun, creative and imaginative.
Museum organizers share the beliefs of our school teachers and
educators that we should foster and inspire life-long learning and
appeal to the diverse learning styles of Mississippi children and the
adults who care for them.
The
facility, to be located in the Jackson metro area, will be appealing
and accessible to everyone across the state. The museum will sponsor
outreach programs to ensure that every child in Mississippi has an
opportunity to visit the facility.
Learning is interdisciplinary, and museum exhibits will integrate the
arts, science and humanities, modeling the way the world works.
Children and adults will be encouraged to work together at the museum,
inventing, exploring and learning together.
