Mississippi Heritage | Literacy | Health & Nutrition | The Arts | The World at Work

Mississippi Children’s Museum exhibits and programs will combine Mississippi content with an understanding of how young people learn best while addressing the specific needs of our children.

Five basic themes will provide the content base for the museum exhibits: Mississippi Heritage, Literacy, Health & Nutrition, The Arts, and World at Work.

Mississippi is unique, rich and diverse in its people, in its environment and in its history, and its connection to the broader world. At the Mississippi Children’s Museum, young people will have a place to discover for themselves the richness of the places where they live, their heritage and cultural traditions. Children will also be introduced to the possibilities for dynamic futures in Mississippi and beyond. This celebratory framework provides the content base for exhibitions, programs and outreach.

Quotes from Champions of Change: The Impact of the Arts on Learning

“…learners can attain higher levels of achievement through their engagement with the arts. Moreover, one of the critical research findings is that learning in and through the arts can help ‘level the playing field’ for youngsters from disadvantaged homes.”

“Too often, the experiences we offer children and youth outside of school are providing recreation but no sense of creation — recess but no sense of success. We must meet and exceed the challenge of giving our young people the best possible preparation we can offer them.”
