May 3, 2008 Ridgeland Tennis Center

The MTA marketing committee is pleased to announce that Cellular South will continue their Title Sponsorship for the 4th annual Mississippi Kids for Kids/Mississippi Children’s Museum Junior Tournament.  “This is the 3rd of a five year partnership with The Mississippi Children’s Museum and we hope to raise more money than we did last year,” Laura Townsend, Chairman of the committee says.  “The fit with the Children’s Museum and a Kids Charity Tournament go together perfectly,” continues Townsend.  “We are very pleased that Cellular South is joining us again as the Title Sponsor.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Mississippi Tennis Association to help raise money for the Mississippi Children's Museum,” said Jim Richmond, director of Corporate Communications.  Cellular South is in the second year of our Cellular South Gameplan program, which is designed to inspire, prepare and inform high school student-athletes about the possibilities of reaching their dreams through academic excellence.”  Richmond said the company will have representatives on site during the tournament to talk to about its statewide educational initiative.  “We’re excited about the opportunity to stress the importance of obtaining a good education and the possibilities and potential that creates for students.  This venue will be a wonderful opportunity to spread that message.”  Cellular South is the nation’s largest privately held wireless provider. Bry Russell is the tournament director for the Mississippi Kids for Kids/Mississippi Children’s Museum Tournament.  “We moved the tournament up this year so we wouldn’t have a conflict with Memorial Day.  We expect our numbers to grow and are really excited about our event,” reports Russell.  The tournament format is doubles only, mixed or non-mixed teams divided by age groups.  This year we will feature the QuickStart tennis format with the 10 & under players during the pre-tournament events.  This is a new format that the USTA has unveiled for this age junior to learn the basics of tennis on a shorter court, using a smaller racket and foam balls.”  To sign up for a team, click here for team entry form or, if you have questions about the tournament, contact Bry Russell at 601-956-6727.
