Tinker with…Tuesdays

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are important to early learning. The Mississippi Children’s Museum wants to introduce early learners to these important fields of study through an exciting, engaging and hands on program called Tinker with… Tuesdays every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in World at Work.
According to the NAEP in 2009, 22% of Mississippi fourth graders performed at or above proficient in Math, whereas the National average was 38%. In Math, 17% of Mississippi fourth graders performed at or above proficient in Science, whereas the National average was 32%. For Eighth grade students, the results were just as alarming; 15% of Mississippi eighth graders performed at or above proficiency in math, whereas the National average was 33% and 15% performed at or above proficiency in science, whereas the National average was 29%. Tinker With… Tuesdays exposes children to concepts that are fun, while introducing them to some important skills they will need to excel in STEM education. The program complements skills that they are learning in the classroom and encourages students to dig deeper, ask questions and discover more!
