Save the Date and “COME BE A KID AGAIN”

JACKSON, Miss. – Jan. 21, 2008 – The Junior League of Jackson, Mississippi Department of Education, Mississippi Economic Council and the Partners ofthe Mississippi Children’s Museum along with Signature Sponsor Cellular South invite you to save the date for the Mississippi Children’s Educational Fair!  The event will excite children of all ages as they explore all the doors that are opened by staying in high school and receiving a diploma.  April 1 will kick of the festivities with a “Come be a Kid Again” Preview Party, and the Youth Ambassador’s Concert on April 5 will wrap up the week.

About the Mississippi Children’s Educational Fair (MCEF)
The Wizard of Oz themed MCEF, which will be held April 2-5, 2008 at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, is designed to help reduce the high school dropout rate in Mississippi by encouraging students to “Stay in School: Soar into the Future.” Featuring hands-on, interactive exhibits, the fair will be a fun, action-packed event. It is offered as a field trip to area schools to showcase the skills needed for exciting careers. On Saturday, all exhibits will be open to the public of all ages from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., free of charge. Also on Saturday is a College and Continuing Education exhibit and a National Guard Climbing Wall and Virtual Shooting Range to entice high school students.

About “Come be a kid again”
Come be among the first to experience the exciting exhibits planned for Mississippi’s students. The Preview Party will be held from 7-10 p.m. and will feature food, fun, and one-of-a-kind auction items from “Mississippi’s Heroes.” The public will also have an opportunity to tour the exhibits on Saturday, April 5, as well as attend a concert targeted to high school students.

About the Youth Ambassador’s Concert at Smith-Wills Stadium
The Youth Ambassador’s Concert will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Smith-Wills Stadium to celebrate high school seniors who have stayed in school. Open to the public, general admission seating is $10 –first come, first-serve. Doors open at 3 p.m. The Mississippi Children’s Educational Fair Youth Ambassador’s Council organized the concert, and they have booked four bands: Roadhouse, The Weeks, Homemade Jamz’ Blues Band, and headliner Colour Revolt. There will be a special guest appearance by Miss Mississippi 2007, Kimberly Morgan.
