Red Rocket Cafe
As children head back to school this fall they will need healthy habits to fuel their learning. That is why each Thursday in September at 3:30 p.m. the Mississippi Children’s Museum Red Rocket Café and the American Heart Association will teach children and families about heart-healthy cooking and demonstrate some quick and easy meals they can make together at home. It’s part of the American Heart Association’s Simple Cooking with Heart program. The program’s goal is to impact the obesity crisis in Mississippi, by introducing families to healthier food options and helping them with portion control. The program is free with admission to the museum.
“One of our key focuses at the museum is health and specifically teaching children and families in Mississippi about healthy choices,” said Susan Garrard, Executive Director of MCM. “This program fits right in with our efforts to offer healthy snack options for families in our Red Rocket Café. We are excited to work with the American Heart Association as we continue to educate families about the importance of making healthy choices.”
The Mississippi Children’s Museum has been designated a Let’s Move Museum by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Initiative because of its focus on interactive exhibits and programs that help young people make healthy food choices and be physically active.
